AllumiaX is hiring for the post of Research Assistant in Power Systems Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an Engineering team in Seattle and Houston and assist in Power System Engineering Research work, learning, and solving core theoretical power systems engineering problem, learning, and writing Python and Matlab to solve problems, and documenting and teaching findings and discoveries to others.

Candidates will have an opportunity to acquire a unique skill set abroad variety of power systems engineering skills in this role.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s or Masters (preferred) degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems Engineering. Ideal candidates must have a strong academic and theoretical problem-solving background with an ambition to excel in their profession. They must have the passion to learn engineering tools and software and effectively apply the engineering concepts learned throughout their earlier course of study.

If a position is secured, there will be a 2-month probation period or shorter, where the candidates will be trained on various live and training projects through which their skills and performance will be evaluated. This period will be fully paid. Given the skills, performance, aptitude, and potential matches business needs and expectations, permanent employment will be offered.

Scope of work:

Primary Focus (12-24 months)

Research & Problem Solving in the following topics

  • Electrical machines:
    • Synchronous machines, power transformers, excitation, power curves, harmonics, impulse characteristics.
  • Power Electronics:
    • VAR compensators, BESS, power quality, harmonic compensation.
  • Control systems

Secondary Focus (concurrent)

  • Perform and prepare Arc Flash, Protective Device Coordination, Short Circuit studies for various small and large projects and equipment evaluation for industrial and commercial facilities.
  • Perform special power system studies such as Transient, Harmonic, and Power Quality Analysis, Load Flow Studies and recommend essential engineering methods and solutions for industrial and commercial facilities.
  • Model low and medium-voltage electrical distribution facilities in ETAP Electrical software as well as SKM and others.
  • Support GeneralPAC engineering training video development and processing.
  • Be a contributing member of a team for some projects while being the team lead for other projects.
  • Conduct R&D work by writing and publishing technical papers, blogs, and whitepapers.
  • Prepare quotes, scope-of-work, and proposals for small and large projects.
  • Support business development and execute on AllumiaX strategies.

Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 0-2 year of relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills using internet collaboration tools (MS Teams, Skype, TeamViewer, etc.) and over the phone
  • Computer literate and able to write technical reports using Office tools
  • Self-motivated individual with highly developed organizational skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate plans, thoughts, and rationale towards the job
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Good judgment and highly dependable
  • Out of the box, critical thinking is encouraged
